Leon Duveen
Bassetlaw

Leon has always been interested in politics. The result of the 2010 General Election convinced him to get more directly involved and join the Lib Dems. He has stood in council elections every year since then and for the last few years acted as campaign manager for the local party.

He was born & grew up in London. After leaving school at 16, he worked in supermarket & then as a civil servant before emigrating to Israel to live on a Kibbutz in the centre of the country where he worked on the communal farm. He was also conscripted into the Israeli Army for 18 months compulsory service.

After meeting his wife on the Kibbutz, they moved back to the UK in 1987, living initially in London and Luton before coming up to live in Worksop in 1989. Having no qualifications, he worked as a delivery driver and taxi driver before return to study as a mature student at Sheffield Hallam University. In 1994, he graduated with a degree in Mathematical Sciences.

Since leaving University he has worked as a Software Engineer, first at a small software house near Huddersfield and then with larger multinational company providing IT solutions to hospitals across the country. For the last year, he has been a self-employed IT contractor with a large London hospital.

He was a parent governor at his children’s school for many years and has been active in other community groups. This year he helped set up Bassetlaw Against Fracking.

Having known both good and bad times, sometimes struggling to make sure was enough food to feed his family, Leon has a wealth of experience of life as an ordinary working person. He hopes to use this experience to help the people of Bassetlaw as their representative at Westminster.
