Paula Dolphin
Torridge & West Devon

Paula was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil to an English father and Italian-Portuguese mother. Her grandfather fought as a spitfire pilot in the Battle of Britain in 1940. She moved to the UK in 1995.

Paula fell in love with Devon & Cornwall after spending several holidays in the region and in 2001 she and her husband decided to move to Bude. With her husband she bought a local retail business which she run for 6 years and had 4 employees.

In 2004 Paula was elected as a councillor on Bude-Stratton Town Council. In 2007 she was elected as part of the Liberal Democrat group on North Cornwall District Council. When Cornwall became a unitary authority in 2009, Paula was elected to the new council representing the surrounding rural communities that boarder with Devon. Later, in May 2012 she became Mayor of Bude-Stratton until the end of 2013.

Throughout her political career, she has helped:

Save the local 24hrs minor injury service and cottage hospital
Ensure car for out of hour medical service stays local and creation of weekend clinics
Increase of 4 extra class room to the local primary school
Building affordable homes for local people in 3 of her 4 parishes
She has represented and provided a trusted voice to the people as well as acted as a source of information or point of access to other agencies. She is in touch and aware of the needs of the community and issues local people face. She has experience on balancing different and often conflicting, interests identified within the community and to represent the community as a whole. She is not afraid to give her honest opinion and to explain her decisions.

With her experience and reputation she will work hard for Torridge & West Devon and dedicate her time helping communities, business and people.
