Tim Brett
North East Fife

Tim Brett has lived in NE Fife since 1985 with his wife and has 3 grown up children. He has been a Fife Councillor since 2003 and Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group on the Council since 2012.

He held senior management positions in the NHS in Scotland, including Chief Executive of Ninewells Teaching Hospital in Dundee and was Director of Health Protection Scotland.

He was Chair of Fife Council’s Social work Committee from 2007 to 2012 and was a member of the NHS Fife Board. During this time Fife was voted the best social care provider in the UK and had the best results in Scotland in the Care Commission report “Making the Grade”.

He was a member of the Ministerial Advisory group from 2007-2012 on Health and Social Care which developed the plans for “Reshaping Care For Older People in Scotland”.

He has worked closely on many issues with Sir Menzies Campbell MP and together they campaigned to retain the RAF at Leuchars in Fife, taking a 20,000 name petition to 10 Downing Street.

At University, Tim led a seven man expedition to the Hindu Kush in Afghanistan and after graduation was a volunteer teacher with VSO in Sierra Leone, West Africa. After training as a health service manager he returned to Sierra Leone to manage a mission hospital.

He is a keen hill walker and completed the round of Scottish Munros (mountains over 3,000 feet) in 2004, and climbed Mount Elbrus the highest mountain in Europe.

He is an Elder in the Church of Scotland and has been Session Clerk of his local church.
