Carmarthen East and Dinefwr, Calum Higgins

Calum Higgins has been heavily involved in campaigns to save Ammanford Fire Station and Pontyates Fire Station from downgrade or closure; he has also campaigned on the cost of energy prices and concerns for the future of the Welsh language.

Calum is Carmarthenshire County Councillor for Tycroes and training to be a barrister. Calum is currently vice chair of the Council's Welsh Language Census group and a Carmarthenshire representative on Mid and West Fire and Rescue Authority since 2012. Calum was brought up and lives in the Amman Valley; he is a fluent Welsh speaker having been educated through the medium of Welsh in Ysgol Gynradd Saron and Ysgol Gyfun Maes-Yr-Yrfa.

His academic background is in law, having graduated from Kings College in London with a law degree; he completed a law Master’s Degree in Governance and Devolution in Wales at Cardiff University. While studying, he completed dissertations on devolution in Wales and the West Lothian question.

Calum's interests include following his local rugby team, Tycroes RFC, and singing in the Amman Valley male voice choir (Cor Meibion Dyffryn Aman). He is active in his local community and charity organisations such as Tycroes Village Hall and Tycroes Local Aid.
