Shas Sheehan
Wimbledon

Shas is dedicated to making life easier for those who need help and support; she is Chair of The Wimbledon Cancer Friendship Group, a Trustee of Merton and Lambeth Citizen’s Advice Bureau and founding member of 20’s Plenty for Merton Steering Group.

Shas was a housewife and full time mum to three children before a volunteer role with the Liberal Democrats led to a political career as Head of Office to Susan Kramer, MP for Richmond Park.

Her local government experience as a councillor for Kew ward, was richly rewarding; she relished being Assistant Cabinet Member for Energy and Climate Change, a role she was especially suited to given her academic background in Environmental Technology.

Shas has also worked as a teacher, teaching ‘O’ and ‘A’ level Chemistry, as well as experienced the NHS through the eyes of a nursing auxiliary at New Cross Hospital.

In 2010 Shas was the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Wimbledon, fighting a tremendous campaign against the proposed closure of Kingston Hospital’s A&E, maternity and children’s services, inappropriate development on an important local business site and poor air quality in Merton.

Shas works hard all year round, not just at election time, on behalf of residents in Wimbledon, Morden, Raynes Park and Motspur Park.

She is fighting hard to retain essential NHS services at St Helier hospital, improve mental health services in Merton (which has the lowest spend per head on mental services of any borough in London), and for 20mph speed limits in Merton.

Dirty streets and potholes are a distressing blight on our local area and Shas works hard to put this issue high on the agenda at Merton council.

Last but not least, Shas deplores the lack of long term planning that has led to a chronic shortage in Primary school places in Wimbledon and is campaigning for a new school.
