Robin Meltzer
Richmond Park

Robin Meltzer was born in Hammersmith and lives in Kew. He was educated at Shenfield High School, a Brentwood comprehensive, before winning a place at Cambridge to read English.

A year after graduating, Robin was working for the BBC where he ultimately became a Senior Producer for an international production department. Robin worked on some of the BBC’s most successful exports and worked with broadcasters in over 30 countries worldwide.

Robin tutors students in English and English literature and has done voluntary work in education.

Commenting on his selection, Robin said: “This is a crucial time for people in our constituency. Senior Conservatives have made Heathrow expansion a clear and present danger. It’s the Liberal Democrats who are stopping them from pressing ahead with what would be an environmental outrage and a noise-pollution disaster for tens of thousands of residents.

“But the next election will not only be about Heathrow. I am determined to speak up for local residents who want to see a stronger economy in a fairer society, where everyone can get on in life.

“I am putting education at the top of my agenda – improving schools so that all children can achieve their full potential.

“One of the cruellest things that the last Labour Government did was to let the skills and training agenda fall into ruin. I am proud that the Liberal Democrats have introduced apprenticeships across the UK, and I am looking forward to working with our valued local businesses here in Kingston and Richmond to help our young people get the most from our apprenticeship programme.”

Baroness Kramer of Richmond Park, the former Liberal Democrat MP for the constituency, commented: “I have known Robin for years and have worked with him on many campaigns including the fight against Heathrow expansion. I am thrilled that he is our new candidate. He will be a fantastic MP for our area.

“Robin understands that this constituency deserves a visible MP who is a real part of the community. I know that, day in and day out, he will demonstrate an outstanding commitment to the residents of Richmond and Kingston.”
