Simon Rix
Truro and Falmouth

Local health and environmental campaigner Simon Rix is the Lib Dem Parliamentary Candidate for the ultra-marginal Truro and Falmouth constituency.

Simon was inspired to join the Lib Dems by that great Cornish liberal campaigner David Penhaligon. Born in Exeter, 43 year old Simon studied energy policy at the Tremough Campus in Penryn and he now works as a business advisor.

Since becoming a Cornwall Councillor in May 2013, Simon has put his pro-NHS campaigning experience to good use as Chair of the Council’s influential back-bench health committee.

Simon is campaigning locally to bring Cornwall’s community hospitals back into the NHS, to double the number of apprentices taken on by local firms and to cut both the fuel poverty and carbon emissions of local homes through better insulation.

Simon lives in mid-Cornwall with his wife Eileen and their two young children. Simon has deep family roots in the Truro and Falmouth constituency. His mother was married in Truro in the 1950s and his eldest brother was born in St Agnes.

In 2010, the Lib Dems were just 435 votes short of victory over the Conservatives in Truro and Falmouth, with Labour coming a distant third, more than 15,000 votes behind.
