Nusrat was selected at one of the largest Open Primaries to date, with 400 voters participating. She said “I am humbled and honoured to have been selected at an Open Primary. I look forward to working closely with Charles Hendry MP over the next 16 months and getting to know every part of the constituency and its many vibrant community groups”.

A party activist for over a decade and grass roots campaigners as Deputy of her local association, a key marginal seat. Nusrat fought the Birmingham Ladywood seat at the 2010 General Election, where she secured the highest Conservative vote in 20 years.

Nusrat has 20 years of work experience outside politics. Starting in the City, before managing health policy for the charities Breakthrough Breast Cancer and Age Concern. She has also worked internationally for the BBC World Service and was posted to various trouble spots, including Burma, Russia, and Afghanistan.

Nusrat was the first woman in her family to go to University and gained a Masters in International Relations from Leeds University.
